Pillow Talk

needlepoint pillow

ave you ever seen a vintage toy in an unopened box, and get the urge to rip open the packaging so the toy can finally be tossed around and played with? That’s how I feel about textiles which are framed and behind glass. I want to set them free so I can touch, touch, touch them. That’s what I did with this old needlepoint I found at St. Vincent de Paul. As soon as I got it to my studio, I took it out of its frame and felt all its cool and unique textures. Of course, it had to be a pillow, so I found some coordinating vintage velvet fabric for the back. Then, after a couple minutes with the sewing machine and stuffing, I had something I could touch, toss, and play with. Happy day!

Nicky! These are just so lovely! I am also a big fan of needlepoint! Back in the day, I stitched a few along with cross stitching! I am in love with the way you “set them free” and created a homie “touch, touch, touch” to them! I am going to get over to Redux to see all of the ones you have! I may just have to bring one home with me & then I can say I have yet another Nicky Tobin Design creation! Enjoying your website! Best, Viv
