Painted Over

repainted canvas

O

ne thing I enjoy is rescuing art. It usually entails finding a good piece of art and giving it a beautiful new mat and frame. However, I recently realized that canvases also need rescuing, rescuing from bad art that is. Its an age old practice to overpaint canvases, so I didn’t feel terrible when I painted over this garage sale canvas (despite the seller’s accusing look when I told him of my intentions). I loved the canvas and its frame; it was the 70’s bright orange and brown on textured gel medium that I wasn’t fond of. I dug through my collection of leftover paint, and came up with several mixtures of blues and grays to create what I call, “Misty Morning.” It was a nice compliment to my newly reupholstered love seat, and contrasted nicely with my studio’s white cinderblock wall. Now it has a happy home with new friends, Kristine and John. Enjoy!

Such things never occur to me. I am amazed at your “eye” for repurposing and your talent to complete the project. Nice work Nicky!

The painting has a nice new home in our dining room. It really is a great frame and canvas. Love the texture and calming colors.
